Learn Harmonica In 30 Days – Day 6 Bending a Blue Note

C-harp-notes-and-bendsWelcome to Harmonica Notes Learn Harmonica in 30 Days Day 6! Today we are talking about the blue note and how to bend your harmonica. Bending isn’t actually bending the harp, it’s using a change in air flow to get a note the harmonica was not intended to play. This is why we play cross harp and how we get the blue note.

Bending can be used for inflection as well as hitting blue notes so it’s really your best friend. The hard part is doing it.

And that is in a nutshell how you bend. Here is the image of the bends for you to download and throw darts at! Have a good weekend and I’ll see you Monday!

    Hey Erik,

Too bad they removed this, sounded like a good lesson. Maybe do 2-3 parts to it next time. Guess I’ll practice the others for now. I’ll be awaiting the next lesson…….

  3. I like the idea of your blog, thanks for bringing us this and your great tutorial videos. It should help many learn harmonica. I haven’t been through all of them but I looked at this one and it looked helpful. Good Job!

    Erik,

I just decided to buy a harmonica today. My daughter brought home a recorder from school and she wanted one for her own. I decided hey let’s buy her her own recorder and I am gonna get myself a harmonica (had a toy one when I was little and always wanted to learn). Anyways, when we got home I started youtubing harmonica lessons and came upon your day one video that lead me to your website. Well man, awesome idea, awesome job so far, and might I add awesome timing! I’ll be following along all month and thanks for the downloadable material as well. You are right, one of the best things about the harmonica is NOONE PLAYS. Here’s to learning and progress!

I play guitar, sing and a little harp…many around me play harmonica…most with no effort to enjoy the harmonica…I came across you on you-tube and after week one I can say I have enjoyed and learned much…I was picking a harp by blowing in several to find the right one…using a lot of tongue blocking and not bending well…I find your lessons…worth-while

    SMILe!

So thats what bending is! I havn’t got a harmonica yet but as i am now retired i think this is going to be the “hobby” for me and the perfect company for walks across the devonshire moors.
The lessons seem easy to follow and i thank you for the help you are giving to new devotees.
