Learn Harmonica in 30 Days day 5 is here and we’re playing harmonica again today! Today you will need your harp and some masking tape. Yes, I said masking tape. We will be working on holes 2-5. the core notes in cross harp blues. Don’t think you have it all though. We aren’t bending yet. This is just a trick to get you playing the notes you will need most and to get you comfortable moving around the scale of the harp. I also have a track for you to download and practice with. Thanks so much for these free lessons. I think it’s awesome that you would take the time to do this. I was wanting to “burn” these lessons onto a DVD so that I’d have them but my friend tells me that it’s illegal to do so from you tube. She suggested asking you to email me the files. Could you do that or would you feel that would be giving too much. I really do only want them for my own use. If you can’t I understand , just thought I give it a try and ask you. i too think this is great …ive had a cheap harmonica ive been playing with for almost a year now, but havent really found the right instruction. now, i hang with alot of musicians and i know that music is best played when from the heart and no one can teach that, but when i have the right support it makes it all that much easier to get into. i find your lessons wonderfull because it dosnt feel like to much, yet. in the end, after this whole year i am only now more confident in where this should go and thats because of you ;)
ps its hard to play harmonica while your cracking up lol i thought the first few videos were really funny.
Have you tabbed out the track at all? Really appreciate these lessons. I have just discovered them on you tube so am playing catch-up. Taking my time though. First got interested last year when Giles King held a workshop at a blues festival but never found the right type of lessons for me, thanks for finally providing them! lol
At this point, don’t worry about the specifics. The idea is to get the feel of the jam while working on single hole blow and draw in the core 4 holes. The tape on the harmonica is to get you comfortable in that zone. Just play.

I like the approach…”just play”……..the key is being able to blow/draw nice clean single hole notes…..damn, my lips get tired of puckering……..the videos are great….thanks for taking the time to do these……..being goal oriented….how does one measure his progress along these 30 days?
Thanks for the support! I measure success with a ratio of fun vs technique. it should always be more about fun than than work. frustration can kill the fun but it also helps you get better.
